Laz Slomovits, of the folk duo Gemini, played a number of concerts at Cafe704 over the years, always with his wife Helen, until she passed away in 2012. To honor Helen’s memory and to celebrate her life, Laz is dedicating this yearly concert to her. Proceeds
from the evening will be donated to Alpha House, an emergency shelter for homeless children and their families, a cause very dear to Helen’s heart.
Laz will be joined (virtually) by a number of guest musicians — San and Emily Slomovits, Peter Madcat Ruth, Jeanne Mackey, Laurel Federbush, and the trio of Eric Fithian, Mary
Wilson, and Lori Fithian — all of whom performed or recorded with Helen over the years. Laz and his guests will sing some of Helen’s songs, as well as original and traditional music in both folk and classical styles.

San & Emily Slomovits
The father daughter music duo of San & Emily Slomovits have been playing music together since Emily was a young child. San, along with his brother Laz, as the duo Gemini, have been a highly popular folk act throughout Michigan and the United States since 1973, and Emily began joining them on stage when she was just eight years old. Now 26, Emily is an accomplished violinist, having studied classical violin for more than a decade, and has also developed a lovely and unique singing style.
San and Emily’s concerts feature a wide range of traditional and contemporary folk, jazz and classical music. Their beautifully blended harmony vocals and exciting instrumental work breathe new life into a wide variety of American and international music, and audiences thrill to their warmth, humor and ease on stage.
